I’m sorry to see this news. I first met Agnes when I joined the faculty at Gallaudet. She was dedicated to her students and a real role model for us new to the profession and to deaf culture. I will always remember her fascinating stories of growing up on the campus. She was greatly missed by our department when she retired. Condolences to all of her family.

Agnes was one of two Gallaudet professors who interviewed me at the MLA convention in Los Angeles in 1983. Having never worked with an interpreter before, I was terrified, especially when she asked me how I felt about committee work. I assumed it was a trick question, sort of like "Have you stopped beating your wife?" and made some sort of evasive answer. Only later, when I got to know her, did I realize that she was, very maternally, trying to forewarn me of the Gallaudet bureaucracy. Also later, I discovered that her husband, Don, had coached football against my father's Roanoke College team many years before. I am happy to say that Agnes became one of my dearest mentors, friends, and colleagues. I will miss her greatly. She will be alive in my memory as long as I am. My sincerest condolences to her family and many friends. sdf

I was so sorry to learn today of Agnes's passing. She was always so very kind and loving to me as a neighbor and Carol's friend, and had a special sparkle and vivacity that I loved. And she tolerated our mischief such as going on celery diets and gifting each other ridiculous and large pet amphibians. My very deepest condolences to all of you on the loss of a truly wonderful person. Much love, Laura
