We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Herman. He was in our Sunday School Class Year’s ago and in our church for a lot of years before he and Sonyae moved. Our prayers and thoughts are with Sonyae and their family. He will surely be missed, but we know God is right there beside them helping them at this difficult time.

Herman "Nick" was a dear friend, a virtuous and kind person who was always in a pleasant mood and willing to help others. He was innovative and would often offer insightful and novel solutions in addressing analytical problems. He was also a person fiercely loyal to his friends and colleagues, at every time and in all places. He led by example, and left behind a legacy of "the good."

Sonyae and Theresa,
Thank you for sharing Herman with us. We were so blessed to have him in our presence. We all wanted him to stay with us longer. I knew him for nearly 20 years. I have never known a more humble man to have done so much, for so many, for so long. I hope that you can be proud of his long and dedicated service to our nation and for our fellow citizens and neighbors. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Sonyae and Family, I met Nick in the early 1990s as a reserve officer assigned to SRD, we continued until my retirement in 1998, and we've stayed in touch by email since. He was a very talented person, with a terrific sense of humor (especially when he learned I was a lawyer, as in, no mercy!), and very helpful to the "new kid" at SRD. In his email to me last month he rejoiced in his granddaughter. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.

"I've walked the valley of death's shadow

so deep and dark that I could barely breathe.

I've had to let go of more than I could bear and

I've questioned everything that I believe.

Still even here in this great darkness

a comfort and a hope comes breaking through

as I can say in life or death

God we belong to you."

Thinking of you and your family during this time of sadness and sorrow. Love, Stacey & "Simon"

Nick was always one of the bright spots in our days at SRD - I never knew him to be upset, moody or unhappy and he always had a smile. Nancy and I were happy to sit with him at our last Christmas luncheon and listen to how happy he was at the prospect of being a grandfather. He will truly be missed and leaves a hole in a lot of lives.

Sonyae and Theresa and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Nick at the Special Research Division for many years. He was one of the kindest and caring gentleman I have ever met. I am so glad I got to talk with him while he was in the hospital, I will always cherish his memory. God Bless You is the last words Nick said to me, so I am passing those words on to you and your family. Peace be with you. Hugs!.
