Orpha Mae Kauffman, 89, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on July 29, 1927, in Antietam, Maryland, she was the daughter of John Luther Hetzel and Mary Eva (Drenner) Hetzel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Charles F. Kauffman, Sr.

As a homemaker, Mae loved and was truly loved by her family as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose favorite place was being at home with her family. She enjoyed nature and being outdoors. For many years, she attended Harvest Life Ministries.

Mae is survived by her three daughters, O. Christine Hawkins and husband Richard of Boonsboro, Lora K. Budnick and husband Edward of Jefferson, Maryland, Kimberly K. Needy and husband Wayne of Boonsboro; one son, Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman, Jr. and wife Cindy of Boonsboro; five grandchildren, J.R. Hawkins, Andrea Spencer, Amanda McElhannon, Kate Budnick, and Nathan Needy; seven great-grandchildren, Tricia, Ella and Dalton Hawkins, Trenten and Kylie Spencer, Ryan and Luke McElhannon; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Carl, and Albert Hetzel; sisters, Irene Miller, Ruth Statler, Alice Gardner and June Myers; and her beloved grandson, Mark Needy.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland.

A celebration of Mae's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro, Maryland. Rev. Jeff Summers will officiate. Final resting place will be in Boonsboro Cemetery in Boonsboro.
