James Lucas, Sr.

Mr. James Albert ( Jimmy) Lucas Sr., 69 of Belleview, Fl. passed away at home on December 19, 2011.  He was born on July 17, 1942 in Frederick, Md. and attended school in Brooklyn, NY.  In his youth he sang and traveled with his siblings as his father ministered in the gospel.  He was so proud of the recordings they made, often sharing with others during his adult years.  James accepted Christ as a child, and later rededicated his life to the Lord in 2010.  At the age of 17 he began a career as long distance road driving, being taught to drive tractor trailers by a family friend.  He later drove for MS Carrier and Hall’s Trucking Company, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #992. James enjoyed restoring and collecting antique cars, hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed carpentry, taking much pride in rebuilding a home for his former wife Lois and children.  He began to rebuild a bungalow on his property in Florida, however, unable to complete due to illness.
Jimmy, as he was affectionately called, is pre-deceased by a son James (Jamie) Albert Lucas Jr., his parents, the late Rev. Daniel J. and Dorothy E. Lucas, three siblings, Juanita Hill-Rose, Daniel Lucas Jr., and Drucilla Coleman.  Left to cherish their memories of him are five children, Pamela Lucas-Huizing and husband Marc, Angela Lucas, Jason Lucas, Daniel Lucas and Sasha Lucas, five grand-children Ivy Burnett-Key and husband Kristopher , Isaiah Washington, Derek Hutson, Michael Huizing and Christopher Huizing, eight sisters  Katherine Smith, Dorothy Birts, Sylvia (Fred) Jerkins, Marlene Lucas-Oglesby, Priscilla (Tony) Timberlake, a special sister Ruth (Derrick) Lucas-Waltz, who made a number of sacrifices during his illness, Lillie (Gus) Morris and Hilda Thomas, an aunt Virginia Simms, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, two special cousins Evelyn Johnson and Sylvia Scott, and friends to include three special friends Michael Hall, Lavenia and Yvette Mays. A viewing will begin at 12 noon and a 1:00 celebration of James’ life will be on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Stauffer Funeral Home 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Md.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association.
