James "Jamie" Burtner

November 21, 1964 — January 20, 2015

James "Jamie" Stephen Burtner, 50, of Keedysville, Maryland, passed from this life while visiting relatives in Melfa, Virginia.

He was born on November 21, 1964, in Nigeria, Africa where his parents were missionaries.  He is the son of Roger E. and Sylvia (Creeger) Burtner of Keedysville.

Jamie was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

He had worked as a chef at various restaurant establishments in the area and was the former owner of the Red Byrd Restaurant in Keedysville.

Jamie was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Rebecca A. (Smith) Burtner; one daughter, Demi L. Burtner, and one son, William Wyatt Burtner and his wife Grace, all of Keedysville; his five siblings, Becky Hein and husband Klaus, Tim Burtner, John Burtner and wife Cindy, Margie Moats and husband Bob, all of Keedysville, and Chris Burtner and wife Beth of Knoxville, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Charlotte and Samaria Burtner.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Salem United Methodist Church, 25 South Main Street, in Keedysville.  Rev. Elizabeth A. LeMaster and Rev. John H. Dean will officiate.  Burial will be held privately.
