Paul Walter Hettich, 87, of Adamstown, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness of acute congestive heart failure.  He was the beloved husband of Eleanor Hettich for 62 years.

Born on April 1, 1927, a native Washingtonian, he was the son of the late Rosa and Paul Hettich.

At an early age Paul was very interested in music and at age 16, he was a member of the Local 161 Musicians Union and was allowed to play in all clubs and hotels in the D.C. area.  He was a 1945 graduate from Roosevelt High School, served in the Army and was sent to Germany in 1946 as a translator and interrogator.  In 1947 he joined his father who was a master painter and paper hanger from Germany and at the same time attended George Washington University, Maryland University, Montgomery College in Rockville and Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.

In 1950, he met his future wife, Eleanor, on an ocean liner while accompanying his mother to Germany.  His luggage was misplaced in her cabin.  They were married in West Palm Beach, FL in 1953 and for the next 44 years lived in Wheaton, MD where Paul was a Dunkin Donuts Franchisee prior to his retirement in 1986.  In 1997, they downsized and retired to Adamstown, MD in Frederick Co.  His memberships included the Arminius Masonic Lodge #25 and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.  His first and main interest was music and he traveled extensively doing concerts in Europe and USO shows in the South Pacific.  He was a longtime member of the Rockville Concert Band as well as the VA National Medical Musical Group and the Frederick Orchestra.  Besides his love of music, his other interests were art, skiing the Austrian Alps and riding his beloved classic 1964 BMW motorcycle.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Paul Hettich, Jr. of Clear Spring, MD, daughter, Lisa Marie Shereika and husband Daniel of Ijamsville, MD and two grandsons, Eric Paul of Frederick and Alex Daniel and wife Jessika and sister-in-law Evelyn Egolf and husband Bill of Loudon, TN.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, June 13, 2014 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM where a funeral service will be held on Saturday,June 14 at 10AM.

Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville at 1PM.
