Alice Jean Kenefick

January 5, 1964 — September 20, 2023

Mount Airy

Alice Jean Kenefick passed away peacefully on September 20th, 2023 surrounded by her immediate family at Dove House Hospice Care Center in Westminster, MD.

Alice was born on January 5th, 1964, in Rockville, MD to Claude Erasmus Lane and Myra Jean Hill. Her favorite hobbies as a child included horseback riding, singing, and playing violin. Alice met the love of her life, George Kenefick, while working as a Wonder Bread representative in 1982. Alice and George married in 1986. Alice and George lived in Wheaton, MD from 1986-1989. Following the birth of their first daughter, Khali, Alice and George moved to Mt. Airy, MD, where their daughters Kerrie and Devon were born. Together, Alice and George raised three daughters, sixteen dogs, and ran eight companies.

Alice believed heavily in giving back to her community. She served as a girls’ little league softball coach for nearly a decade in both Winfield and Mount Airy. Coach Al, as she was called, was known for her catch phrase, “Get down and ready!” Her love for her community and an insatiable sweet tooth led her to open a candy store in downtown Mt. Airy, MD in 2007. At the aptly named, The Candy Bar, Alice hosted children’s birthday parties and events like Story Time with Mrs. Claus for Christmas.

In June of 2020, Alice was blessed with her first grandchild, Anna. Over the next three years, Alice discovered her true passion, being “Gaga” to her grandchildren. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. Alice’s love for her grandchildren ultimately brought her entire family closer together, much to her pleasure.

Alice was a lifelong learner. Although her educational interests ranged from real estate to feng shui, her favorite subject was accounting. Whether she was creating a spreadsheet, navigating QuickBooks, or explaining tax laws, Alice was happy. Alice received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from UMUC in 2019.

Alice was preceded by father Claude Erasmus Lane, mother Myra Jean Hill, sister Deborah (Debbie) Lane, and brother Richard Lane. She is survived by her loving husband George Joseph Kenefick, daughters Khali Marie Kenefick, Kerrie Elizabeth Kay Kenefick, and Devon Renae Kenefick, grandchildren Anna Rose Taylor, Lucy Jean Taylor, and Cole Thomas Taylor, sons-in-law Michael Thomas Taylor, Grayson Tyler Schissler, and Nevin Michael Voors, dogs Kopper and Sammie, and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick, MD on Monday, September 25th from 6:00-8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at St. Joseph on Carrollton Manor in Frederick, MD on Tuesday, September 26th at 1:00 PM. Interment and reception will follow a full mass.
