It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan Eugene Schoonover, aged 62, of Boonsboro, MD on April 25, 2025 at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC.
A beloved husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather, Allan leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories.
Born on July 29, 1962 in Frederick, MD, Allan devoted his life to his family and his faith as a steadfast servant of Christ. He is survived by his beloved wife and life partner for 30 years, Betsy Schoonover. Together, they built a life full of love, joy, and devotion. Allan was the proud father of four children: Matthew Schoonover (and his wife, Kelsey, and their children, Delaney and Beau) of Myersville, MD, Amber Schoonover of Hagerstown, MD, two step-children, Steven Hamrick of Lake Linganore, MD, and Elizabeth Hamrick of Boonsboro, MD. He is also survived by his father, Eugene Schoonover of Frederick, MD; his sister, Marcia Bell (and her husband, Gary) of Thurmont, MD; and his brother, Keith Schoonover (and his wife, Lori) of Wolfsville, MD.
Allan, a master locksmith, grew up in Frederick, MD, where he learned the art of locksmithing from his father at a young age and later became the owner and operator of Gene's Lock Service, located in Frederick, MD. His dedication to the craft was evident in his meticulous work and the trust he built within the community. Beyond his professional achievements, Allan was admired for his readiness to assist neighbors and friends, often going out of his way to ensure their safety and security. Gene's Lock Service will continue to serve the community.
Allan's dedication to service extended far beyond his local community. For many years, he worked in the missions' field, contributing to the construction of clinics and orphanages in underserved regions outside the United States. His hands-on efforts were a reflection of his unwavering commitment to improving lives and spreading compassion, leaving a lasting impact on countless individuals around the world.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Schoonover; and his grandparents, Beatrica and Charles Shuff, and Helen and James Schoonover.
