Allen Lamont Thomas

Allen Lamont Thomas, 84, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by loved ones including his “favorite daughter.”

Born on September 30th, 1940 in Kinderhook, New York, Lamont was the son of Allen John Thomas Jr. and Mary Lamont Thomas. He grew up in Kinderhook, writing for the Kinderhook Bugle. Lamont graduated from Ichabod Crane High School, class of 1958, before earning his degree at Brown University, class of 1962. After graduating college, he returned home and married Nancy Smith, before earning a job at the National Security Council and relocating his growing family to the Washington DC region.

Lamont was known as a focused individual. He served in the Army Reserves before dedicating most of his career to banking, starting with Citizens Bank of Maryland, and ultimately co-founding and building two banks, later contributing to their acquisition. In his personal life, he enjoyed being an unofficial Brooklyn Dodgers historian, drafting birthday cards for family, and organizing his life in spreadsheets.

Lamont is survived by his second wife, Jane Wehr; his sister Betsy Craggs; children, Hugh Thomas (Sharon Thomas), Bob Thomas (Tanya Thomas), and Anne Henley (Jonathan Henley); grandchildren, David Thomas (Lindsey Keller), Chad Henley, Collin Henley, Jake Thomas, Matt Thomas, Ben Thomas, and Casey Henley; great-grandchildren, Dominic Thomas, Alex Thomas, Zach Thomas, and Justin Thomas; and his unofficially adopted grandson, Ben Lee.

A private memorial service will be held in Kinderhook, New York. The Thomas family extends deep gratitude to the Kline House in Mt. Airy, MD for their exceptional care and support during Lamont’s final days.

Lamont, LT, Dad, Pop, Little Pop will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his rigid generosity, unusual family traditions, ability to keeping trash cans empty, and the 100% unique ruleset that guided his life.
