Ann Marie Boyer

Mrs. Ann Marie Boyer, 95, of Frederick, passed away Saturday, April 20, at her suite in Blossom Place at Edenton, Frederick. She was the wife of the late Lester William Boyer, who passed in 2001 after 45 years of marriage.

Born March 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William Stephen and Alice Genevieve (Dukehart) Sterbinsky.

She grew up in Frederick County living in Emmitsburg for many years. She started school at St. Euphemia’s Catholic School and graduated from St. Jospeh’s High School, in Emmitsburg.
One of her many memories was as a teenager, driving her father to the Rainbow Roller Rink in Taneytown. He would play the organ for the skaters, and she would skate, eventually becoming a superb skater.

Her first job was working as a secretary at Mount St. Mary’s College. She continued her career as an administrative assistant for numerous organizations at Fort Detrick, retiring in 1995 from East Coast Telecommunications Center. In her first few years of retirement she was a diligent caregiver to her husband Les and son David throughout their illnesses.

Ann Marie was involved in numerous organizations including the Frederick Homemakers Club, the Frederick Elks 684 and the Central Maryland Antique Tractor Club. She was an avid gardener, who loved being outside, which could be seen by the size of her flower gardens all around her home.
Ann Marie and Les made many trips to California to visit their daughter. After retirement she traveled extensively going on cruises and trips, including Alaska, the Panama Canal and Europe, just to name a few. Ann Marie would travel with many friends and family, including Sandy, her daughter’s mother-in-law, from California.

She also enjoyed music of all kinds. She learned to play the piano from her father, a music professor at Mt. St. Mary’s, and loved to play throughout her life. From the smile on her face you knew Ann Marie also loved singing along with her friends at Edenton. Even with dementia she remembered all the words of songs during sing-alongs.

Ann Marie is survived by her children, William Boyer and wife Peggy of Jefferson, Dr. JoAnn Boyer Tofflemire and husband Carl D. of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; one granddaughter, Alison Boyer; as well as many nieces and nephews. Especially dear to her were Susan, Jane, and Jennifer, who all helped her for a number of years while she was still living in her house.
She is also remembered by a number of close work friends that include Ronnie, Virginia, Bonnie, and Ginger. They all kept in touch and made sure Ann Marie would be part of their group lunches and made sure to visit her many times when she was homebound and at Edenton. She also enjoyed visits from her long-time neighbor Janet.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester W. Boyer, son David Anthony Boyer and brother William Francis Sterbinsky.
Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Blossom Place, Edenton for all their caring help while Ann Marie was there. Liz, Andrea, and Tareyzza especially helped with her transition in this last stage of her life.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday, April 26, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, at St. John's Catholic Church, 116 E. 2nd St., Frederick.
