Ann Louise Pearre, 88, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7th at home with her family. She was born on December 20, 1936 on the family farm in Browningsville, MD. She was the daughter of John H. McElfresh and Evelyn M. Rippeon McElfresh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Emmet Ray Pearre, Jr.
Ann worked hard on the farm, part of her responsibility was gathering the eggs and milking the cows. Her first paying job was weeding the Frederick Golf course with her sister Irene and her grandfather. As a teenager she worked at Hendrickson's Department Store on Market Street in Frederick. She graduated from Frederick High School and got married that June. She began working for the Atomic Energy Commission, Germantown, in a secretarial position. After giving birth to her 2 children, she was longing to spend more time with them. She and her husband decided to operate the Hyattstown Grocery Store in Hyattstown, MD. Once the children began school, she began working at the Clarksburg Elementary School as a Library Aide. She left there for a secretarial position at Damascus Elementary School. She decided to continue her education and took a computer programming class with her son at FCC. Upon completion of the class, she was able to secure a position as a computer programmer at IBM in Gaithersburg, MD. She reluctantly retired from this position when her division was sold to another company. She then took a part-time position working for Merill Lynch on Patrick Street in Frederick.
Ann loved her family, and spending time with them, more than anything. She planned many of the family get-togethers, including delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners which she insisted on cooking herself. She enjoyed researching and documenting her family ancestry for many years, had all her photo albums labeled and in impeccable order. She loved attending all the events and activities for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the member of the Hyattstown Auxiliary, was the National Little League Secretary, and was co-leader of a Girl Scout Troop 81566 with her daughter-in-law, Cindy.
After retirement, Ann and her husband enjoyed traveling, and visited every state in the continental US. They also loved babysitting their grandchildren and having sleepovers with them as much as they could.
During her later years, Ann enjoyed spending time at Daybreak Adult Day Services. She made many friends there and her most special friend was Mr. Charles, the bus driver with whom she had many happy times.
