Anna M. Hughes

Anna M. Hughes, 85, of Thurmont, MD, passed from this life on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Genesis Healthcare Gettysburg Center in Gettysburg, PA. She was the loving wife of the late Grover Cleveland Hughes Sr., who passed on April 11, 1984.

Born on November 3, 1937, in, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Andrew and Edith (Alexander) Andrew.

She worked at Frederick Memorial Hospital for 35 years, from which she retired.

She devoted her life, to taking care of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was always the most important thing to her.

She is survived by her sons, David Alan Hughes, and Jeffrey Lee Hughes (Tanya), grandchildren; Jeffrey Douglas Hughes (Summer), Megan Lee Fawks (Aaron), Tommy Lee Hughes, Jennifer Nicole Hughes, Sherry Jean Hughes, and Paul Warren Hughes, and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, James Clarence Andrew, Paul Warren Andrew, Eugene Harold Andrew and Franklin Elwood Andrew, sisters; Rosie Annabelle Eyler, Ruth Helen Shane, Sarah Mae McNair, Harriet Loraine Buhrman, Barbara Ann Wantz, and Belinda Kay Fogle. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, and parents, she is preceded in death by her son Grover Cleveland Hughes Jr., brothers; Edward William Andrew, Martin Luther Andrew, George Washington Andrew, Donald Leroy Andrew, and Samuel David Andrew, sisters; Betty Jane Stambaugh, and Mary Elizabeth Brown.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, in Thurmont, MD, 104 East Main Street.

A celebration of Anna's life journey will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow after services at Blue Ridge Cemetery, 121 North Altamont Ave, Thurmont, MD.
