Anna Secondari, 100, of Boonsboro, Maryland, a cherished member of the community and a family woman passed from this life on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was the wife of the late Dr. Joseph Secondari.
Born on April 23, 1925, in Paldiski, Estonia she was the daughter of the late Boris Alexander and Anna (Uferbach) Sepling.
Anna grew up on her family's farm, where she developed a love of animals. She always took pride in her ability to milk a cow and handle farm animals. She lived in the capital city of Tallinn for high school. As she finished, WWII crushed Estonia between the invading German and Russian armies, forcing Anna and her immediate family to flee their homeland and escape into Germany. There Anna attended the universities at Munich and Marburg. After five years, she was able to immigrate to the United States along with her parents and younger brother.
Arriving in New York City, Anna did postgraduate work at Columbia University, becoming a pharmacist. It was during her time in New York that she met her future husband, Dr. Joseph Secondari at Wyckoff Heights Hospital where they both worked. They married in 1956, and soon welcomed their son, Francesco, into the world in 1957. Together, the family would move to Boonsboro in 1959, where Joseph served as the town doctor until the early 1980’s. Anna was a mother and community member, participating in numerous local activities. She was proud to be a member of the American Association of University Women. She engaged with the Boonsboro Library Board, Homemakers, Historical Society and other town activities. Anna lived an energetic life with a unique breath of experiences that she shared with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Francesco “Fran” Secondari; her nieces, Karen Kurtz of Virginia, and Laine and Christina Sepling of Sweden. Anna also leaves behind her beloved cat, Minnie.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Peeter and Walter Sepling.
