Anne Alling Long passed away on Jan. 11, 2025, at the Fahrney Keedy Home Village in Boonsboro, MD. She was born Nov. 10, 1933, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Ambassador Paul H. Alling and Romaine Loar. Anne lived in Alexandria, VA, Evanston, IL, and Tangier, Morocco in her early years. She studied Medieval French Literature at the Sorbonne and later studied at George Washington University.
Anne married Foreign Service Officer Richard G. Long in 1955 and served with him in Lahore, West Pakistan, Algiers, and Paris. An avid equestrian, Anne was a 4-H riding instructor and vet tech. She was also a Civil War enthusiast, working as a docent at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, and as a National Park Volunteer Ranger at Harpers Ferry for many years, where she helped others with their research on the war. A bright, multi-talented woman, who cooked amazing meals, Anne Alling Long was also a true diplomat.
She is survived by her husband and four children (Conrad, Kathryn Larson, Barbara Long-Bonadio, and Nathan), and one grandchild (Harvee Bonadio).
