Anthony "Tony" Joseph Colandreo, 68, of Frederick, MD passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at his home after an 18 month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of Barbra Schmersahl Colandreo for 22 years.
Born June 8, 1949 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of the late Joseph and Columba Campanile Colandreo.
After graduating from Wheaton High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served as a dog-handler in Vietnam.
He then worked in landscaping and gardening. His last employer was Harland J. Shoemaker & Son, Inc where he was an Equipment Operator until his retirement in 2013. He enjoyed driving in the countryside, travelling to visit grandchildren, cooking, and gardening, especially in his cherished hosta beds. Tony was always happy to lend a helping hand to friends, family, and neighbors.
In addition to his wife he is survived by brother John Colandreo and sister Marianne Jensen and husband Tommy of Frederick County. Also, children Shannon Barnett and husband Justin of Miami, FL,; Mary Kathleen (KT) Colandreo and fiancé Gill of Cocoa, FL; stepson Stephen Delaughter and wife Kathy of Hagerstown; stepdaughter Christine Cohen and husband Steven of Chandler, AZ; Grandchildren Shane McMahan, Kayleigh Colandreo of FL, Shelbi Geesey, Nicole Wolf both of PA, Cassandra Delaughter, Alexis Delaughter of Hagerstown, Kaitlin Cohen, Aaron Cohen, Madeline Cohen of AZ; great-grandchildren Addilyn Geesey, Carson and Eva Wolf all of PA;
He was preceded in death by his brother Vincent Colandreo.
He will be greatly missed by the family of his wife: James and Carmen Schmersahl of Frederick; Frank and Carolyn Schmersahl of Myersville, William and Maribeth Schmersahl of Myersville, Liane Schmersahl Hatch and Stephanie Schmersahl.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 12-2PM and 6-8PM where a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 2 at 2PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frederick Food Bank.
