Astrid A. Lauter

Astrid Kristine Aarli Lauter, 86, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023 following a brief illness, complicated by late-stage dementia and spinocerebellar ataxia. She was a resident at HeartFields Assisted Living at Frederick, Maryland.

 Born in 1936 to the late Kristian Gundersen and Anne Aarli Gundersen, she grew up in Stokke, Norway and attended school in Tønsberg, Norway. She later completed secretarial school in Drammen and began a career with the Norwegian government.

Her love of international travel led her to pursue a work opportunity in the United States, where she met Carl Julian Lauter of Washington, D.C. They married in Tønsberg, Norway in 1968 and returned to the United States to make their home in Bethesda.  Following careers as a homemaker and bookkeeper, Astrid used her love of travel to become a travel agent. Astrid and Carl visited six continents together during their marriage.

She is survived by her son, Carl Espen Lauter and his wife, Andrea; a daughter, Anne Christine and her husband, Paul Wright; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Wright, and Abigail Wright.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Carl Julian Lauter and her siblings Bjørn Gundersen and Gudveig Henriksen. 

A celebration of life will be at a later date.
