Avangeliya (Angeliki) Beck, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Frederick, Maryland, at the age of 97.
Born on November 18, 1927, in Constantinople (Istanbul), Turkey, Angeliki was educated within the Greek Orthodox Church and remained deeply devoted to her faith throughout her life. Gifted with an extraordinary mind and love of language, she spoke and understood several, including Ancient Greek.
Shortly after the end of World War II, Angeliki married Charles W. Beck, a U.S. Navy serviceman and American citizen. Following their marriage, she immigrated to the United States in the early 1950s, where together they built a loving home and family rooted in faith and kindness.
A devoted homemaker, Angeliki found joy in caring for her family, gardening, traveling, and spending time by the beach. She was one of the founding members of Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Frederick, Maryland, where she volunteered for more than two decades—especially in the kitchen for the church’s Greek festivals. Her warmth, hospitality, and generous heart touched all who knew her.
Angeliki is survived by her children: Stephen Beck and his wife Sharon Beck of Maryland; Jennifer Marshall, wife of the late Francis Marshall; and Raymond Beck of Maryland. She was the cherished grandmother of Nichole Szczesny, wife of Rob Szczesny, and Stephanie Morton, wife of Greg Morton, both daughters of Stephen and Sharon Beck. She was the proud great-grandmother of Theodore Szczesny, and Gabriel and Michael Morton.
She is also lovingly remembered by her extended family, including nephews Thomas Vlahakis (wife Gina) and the late George Vlahakis (wife Christina), niece Alexsandra Moussios, and many other nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles W. Beck (May 5, 2003), and her sister Chrysoula Vlahakis.
A viewing and funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 920 W. 7th Street, Frederick, MD. The viewing will take place from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, and all are welcome to attend. A luncheon will be held afterward at Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant.
Angeliki’s life was defined by her deep faith, compassion, and love for family and community. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.
May her memory be eternal.
