Bernard A. Dennison

October 5, 1934 — July 11, 2025

Poplar Springs

Bernard “Bernie” Dennison, from Poplar Springs, MD, peacefully passed away on July 11, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Glade Valley, Walkersville, MD.

Bernie worked for the US government for 35 years spending 16 years at Fort Detrick and 19 years with the Defense Nuclear Agency. Bernie was a Biological Lab Technician. His Christian faith was very important to him. He was a founding member of the Church of the Open Bible, now known as Mount Airy Bible Church, before transferring to Church of the Open Door in Westminister, MD. It was important to him to make sure he shared “the salvation we have through Jesus Christ our Lord” with those he came into contact with throughout his life. Additionally, Bernie was a very talented handyman. After his retirement, he did many construction jobs around the community. He generously shared those skills with neighbors, family, and friends. He could always be called upon to help out with a project and enjoyed a good day of work. Completing projects with Bernie was always an adventure. His motto was he could ”mess up three times and it would still be cheaper than hiring someone”.

In addition to his wife, Sandra (Bowman) Dennison, he is survived by his son, Brian Dennison (Margaret), daughter, Lori Clark (Mark), Stevie Dennison, Philip Dennison (Patti). He is survived by 5 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Bowman, and his granddaughter, Michelle Dennison.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025 at the Stauffer Funeral Home in Mt. Airy (8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy, MD, 21771) starting at 10:00 am with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 am. Following the service, Bernie will be interred in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery (911 Watersville Rd., Mt. Airy, MD 21771). A light lunch will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Church of the Open Door (550 Baltimore Blvd, Westminister, MD 21157) or to Michael A.
