Bonnie Wastler Kikirk

Bonnie Wastler Nikirk, 94, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed from this life on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at home surrounded by her family.

Born on June 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Carrie Tressler Wastler. Bonnie was the wife of the late Glenn Nikirk for 61 years who died in November 2013.

She graduated from Thurmont High School in 1948 and the Frederick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 as an RN with 43 years of nursing.

Bonnie worked for pediatrician Dr. Russell Guest and the Meridian Nursing Center in Frederick. After retiring from nursing, she worked as a hostess at Fitzgerald's Shamrock Restaurant inThurmont.

She was a member of the Garfield United Methodist Church in Smithsburg; a life member of the Thurmont American Legion Post 168, and the Frederick Memorial Hospital Nurses Association.

She is survived by one sister, Edith Wastler of Hilton Head, SC, a brother, Wayne Wastler and wife Carolyn of Thurmont. She was preceded in death by sisters Phyllis Martin and Lois Wastler; brother-in-laws Richard Wastler and Herb Martin and her beloved dog, Stella. She is remembered by nieces, nephews and great nieces as well as cousin Beverly Mapp and close friends Ruby Storer of Thurmont and Carolyn Lewis of Emmitsburg.

The family would like to thank Lori, Tina and Linda from Hospice and Robin Wastler for all their care and support.

Graveside services and interment will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday June 5, at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont.

Memorial donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice, Frederick County Humane Society or Garfield United Methodist Church.
