Brenda Jean Smith

Brenda Jean Smith passed away on December 17, 2025, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on July 4, 1959, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of Doris L. Exter and the late John C. Exter. Brenda was the wife of Barry Smith.

A 1977 graduate of Patapsco High School, Brenda spent the majority of her career in the banking industry with Maryland National, Bank of America, Allfirst, and M&T Bank rising to the level of Teller Manager. Brenda loved helping others and her career reflected a dedication to service with a smile.

Brenda was a dedicated fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Capitals. The beach was her place of peace. She couldn’t wait to get her toes in the sand, lay in the sun, and read a good book while listening to her favorite music. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed decorating everything she could and baking cookies.

Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are children melissa Larsh, Matthew Swann, and Cynthia “Lauren” Swann; siblings David and Johnny Exter; and grandchildren Starr, Jaide, Deliah, Alissa, Adan, Roman, and Damon.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
