Ms. Carole Diane Jacoby (Nee Shankle), 79, of New Market, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023. She was the loving wife of Henry Jacoby. On October 31 they would have been married 59 years. Born in on December 17, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Margaret (Nee Cole) Shankle.
Upon graduating from Frederick High School in 1961,Carole was employed as a secretary in the office of the Controller at the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1966, she gave up her job to have a family. Carole returned to the work force in 1983 as a secretary for the Frederick Jazzercise for several years. She moved on to participate as a volunteer in the Heartly House program while attending college for a degree in social science. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in social science in 1987. Upon graduation, She was hired by the Frederick County Department of Social Services. She worked in the Child Care Program until she retired in 1998.
She enjoyed the creative arts of painting scenery, making clothes, embroidering, and knitting. She loved to sing and was a member of The Frederick Singers (1981 and 1982). She especially liked the time spend at the beach on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are her sister Constance Houtz of Manassas, Virginia, her son, Andrew Jacoby, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and daughter, Heather and John Pontius, of Germantown, Maryland, three grandchildren, Haley, Elijah, and Aeden Jacoby and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702. A short service will follow at 12:00 p.m prior to interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to the Jacoby home for a reception after the interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartly House, 326 W. Patrick Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701.
