Carolyn Jean (nee) Porter Smith, 80, of Arlington, Virginia, passed away at home peacefully on Saturday, November 22, 2025. She was born on July 22, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is survived by her son, B. Alexander Smith, sister, Judith Ann (nee) Porter Kunkel (Bruce), and 3 nieces, Casey, Lindze, and Sarah.
Growing up Carolyn enjoyed ice skating, sledding, skiing, and swimming. She is a 1963 Graduate of Parkville High School, Baltimore, MD and was crowned Sweetheart of 1963. In addition, she was voted by her classmates as Most Collegiate. She enjoyed singing in the choir and playing intramural sports.
Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hood College, loved decorating her home for the holidays, traveling, gardening and her pets. Carolyn worked for a bank, enjoyed being an early childhood education teacher and was a Smithsonian museum volunteer. A devoted spouse, parent, and friend, she created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Her life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those around her. She touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and legacy at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mount Airy, Maryland on Monday, December 1, 2025. Details of the service will be shared with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Nature Conservancy.
