Charlen Loretta Wyman, age 97, of Fairfield, PA, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born January 9, 1929, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Erwin H. and Eleanora E. (Kiefer) Henne. She was the beloved wife of Harold L. (Pete) Wyman for 67 years. He preceded her in death in 2023. Charlen moved from Louisville, KY to Northboro, MA, in 1956, where she started her family. In 1964, she moved to Damascus, MD, where she lived until 1995 and raised her family. Pete and Charlen spent their retirement years in Fairfield, PA. She never forgot her “Old Kentucky Home.”

Charlen spent most of her life as a devoted homemaker and also enjoyed volunteer work. Her greatest achievement was being the beloved mother of five girls. She graduated from Ahren’s Trade School for drafting and mechanical drawing. Ahren’s Career and Technology Center, founded in 1926, was part of the Jefferson County Public System in Louisville, KY. She attended the University of Louisville. Her employment history in Louisville, KY, included the following: salesperson at the music dept. at Bacon’s Department Store; concession stand employee at the National Theater; cartographer (city maps) for the Louisville Map Service; accountant in the accounts receivable depart. at Colgate Palmolive; accountant, in the credit department, at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. During war times, Charlen was part of a private organization similar to the USO. She entertained the servicemen by singing, being a dance partner, attending parties at the private officer’s club and comforting those who were injured in the hospital units.

Her volunteer work included working for her Catholic Church in Louisville teaching CCD classes and helping with the childcare program. In Damascus, MD, Charlen also enjoyed volunteering at the Catholic Church. She was a member of the church choir. For many years, she worked as a volunteer with the Montgomery County Dept. of Recreation in Maryland. She worked with programs for individuals with disabilities. She was a chaperone for events, and outings. She helped individuals learn life skills.

Charlen enjoyed gardening. She had large vegetable gardens and beautiful flower gardens. She loved traveling around the country and also attending antique car shows with Pete. She and her family, when they were younger, enjoyed camping in their Holiday Rambler. She was a great dog mother to her 4 dogs. In her youth, Charlen played the drums and piano. She could “play by ear”.

Charlen enjoyed gardening, had large vegetable gardens and beautiful flower gardens.

Surviving are her daughters, Linda Wyman-Collins of Fate, TX, Pamela Ruocco and her husband, Joseph, of Hackettstown, NJ., Angela Luskey and husband, Thomas, Jr., of Silver Spring, MD, and Barbara DeBoy and husband, Thomas, of Urbana, MD; 11 grandchildren, Gregory, Neil, Brianna, Ryan, Carmine, Amanda, Michael, Eric, Katherine, Sandra and Morgan; five great-grandchildren, Erica, Gabriel, Eligh, Grayson and Hayden; one great-great granddaughter, Oaklyn; brother, Charles W. Henne, II, of Montgomery, OH; and niece, Sherre Henne Stieber of Columbia, SC.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, Erwin M. and Theodore L. “Teddy” Wyman; daughter, Diana L. Wyman; grandson, James R. Luskey; sister-in-law, Barbara K. Wyman; and nephew, Charles W. Henne, III.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish on 4103 Prices Distillery Road in Ijamsville, MD.

Viewing and burial will be private at the family’s request.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to the American Cancer Society.
