Charles Edward May, Sr.

Charles Edward May, Sr. of Thurmont, MD passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025 at his home. Mr. May was born in Frederick, MD on October 27, 1932. He was the loving husband of 32 years to the late Vera Jean May.

He is survived by eight children that will miss him dearly. JoAnn Harris (Greg) of Sebastian, FL; Kathi Barnes of Mesa, AZ; Charles E. May, Jr. (Brenda) of Fairfield, PA; Teresa May of Thurmont, MD; Sharon Alvarez (Provi) of Rockledge, FL; Renee' May (Chuck Copenhaver, deceased) of Rockledge, FL; Ronald Walter (Maureen) of Thurmont, MD and Michael Walter (Lydia) of Fairfield, PA. In additional to his Children, he leaves 14 Grandchildren: Christy Lofchick (Cory); Leslie Priester (Al); Angela Kane (Jeremy); Buddy Allen; Daniel Fitzgerald (Crystal); Jessie Worrell (Robert); Bryan Fitzgerald (Destiny); Wade Boggs; Daphne DeGennaro (Matthew); Austin Hicks; Mikey Walter (Erica); Tyler Walter (Kim) and Krista Walter. He also enjoyed his 25 Great Grand Children and 2 Great Great Grand Children.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth May; Grandson Matthew Hurley; and Great Grandson Allister Kane. Mr. May was the fifth of thirteen children to the late Clarence May, Sr. and Ruth May. He is survived by 4 siblings: Grace Blickenstaff, Ray May, Nancy Caudill and Rose Ray. He is predeceased by 5 brothers; Truman May, Clarence May, Jr., Norman May, Harvey May and Raymond May; predeceased by 3 sisters; Dorothy Smith, Patsy Main and Gloria Caudill.

Mr. May served in the 82nd Airborne from 1950 through 1953 during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Thurmont American Legion Post 168.

He owned and operated the C.E. May Construction Company until he retired in 1995, and was a member of the International Carpenter Union Local 132.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, and his great passions were his garden, fishing and hunting.

Visitation will be held at Stauffers Funeral Home in Thurmont on Thursday, August 7, from 3-5 and 6-8. A service will be held on Friday at 10am.
