Mr. Charles Richard “Poppi” Worrell, 72 of Hagerstown MD, originally from Frederick MD, entered into eternal life on Tuesday July 15, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (Dot Hackey) Jean Worrell.
Born, March 16, 1953 in Frederick. He was the son of Mrs. Roxena E. Worrell and the late Mr. Walter L. Worrell.
Charles worked for the City of Frederick Sanitation Department for many years before retiring. He was an avid Washington Commanders (Redskins) fan. He enjoyed shooting pool, going fishing, and riding his bike while listening to music on his boombox.
He is survived by his son, Richard L. Weedon and Karen (Gaye), of Frederick. Holly Hackey and Camille, of Hagerstown, Alfred (T.J) Helms, of Hagerstown, Ivan Helms Sr. and wife Bernadette, of Colorado, Evan Helms Sr. and wife Lucia, of Nebraska, Talita Helms-Rodriguez, of Hagerstown. He was preceded in death by his father Walter L. Worrell and daughter Terri Boyce-Morris.
“Poppi’s” loving siblings are Sandra Dorsey and husband Eric (Yogi), of Frederick, Barbara Worrell, of Frederick, Sherman Worrell and wife Janice, of Frederick, Randy Worrell and wife Lisa, of Ijamsville, Leslie Buck and husband Edward (Eddie), of Hagerstown. Many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren including a very special loving and devoted granddaughter (Sgt.) Takaila M. Bell, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a very close friend Mr. “Wally” Pearson.
The family entrusted Charles’ (Poppi) care to Stauffer Funeral Home 1621 Opposumtown Pike, Frederick MD, 21702. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday July 22, 2025 during the hours of 4pm-8pm. Services will also take place at Stauffer Funeral Home (Frederick) on Wednesday July 23, 2025 beginning at 11am. Final resting place will be held at Resthaven Cemetery located at 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy., Frederick, MD 21701.
