Charles C. Gunn

Charles C. Gunn, 85, died December 3 at his home in Frederick.

Mr. Gunn was born October 31, 1921 in Stonewall, Mississippi. After attending the University of Southern Mississippi he moved to the Seattle area.

He enlisted in the Navy as a flight cadet in 1942 and served throughout World War II. After the war he began a 38-year career at United Airlines from which he retired in 1984 as ground operations manager at LaGuardia airport in New York.
He was a resident of Frederick for twenty years and actively volunteered for a number of local organizations. During his tenure as president of the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, he was instrumental in acquiring the historic Derr House and in expanding fundraising efforts for Schifferstadt Architectural Museum. He was a member of the Frederick County Community Cancer Coalition where he steadfastly promoted cancer education and consistently advocated on behalf of cancer survivors everywhere.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Elsie. He is survived by his children, Susan Schatzle of Frederick, Christopher Gunn of Milford, Ohio, Jennifer Wiley of Lagunitas, California and Peter Gunn of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and sons- and daughters-in-law Edward Schatzle, Janet Gunn, Charles Wiley and Karen Gunn, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Visitation: No visitation

Services: A private memorial will be held at home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Frederick County.
