Charlotte S. Mathews
January 7, 1923 — December 25, 2006
Mrs. Charlotte S. Mathews, 83 of Frederick, MD., passed away after a short illness, Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Northampton Manor Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Russell Mathews, Jr.
Born January 7, 1923 in Frederick County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry Hopkins, Sr. and Nellie Remsberg Swomley.
Mrs. Mathews was a member of the Grace Rocky Hill Lutheran Church and was very acitve in the Willing Workers. She farmed with her husband, on the farm on Coppermine Road, near Woodsboro, for many years. She also worked at Barbara Fritchie and was a manager at Masser's. Mrs. Mathews enjoyed spending time with her family also vegetable and flower gardening.
She is survived by six children Natalie Porter of Salisbury, Gerald R.. Mathews and wife Diane of Stevensburg, VA, Bonnie O'Neil and husband William of Bristol, Conn., Cynthia Pilch and husband Henry of Myersville, Dennis Mathews of Hagerstown and Christine Bruchey and husband Charles of Middletown, Sixteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one sister Ruth Luggar of Frederick, Brother and sister-in-laws Raymond, Marshall, Edward, Charles, Donald and Robert Mathews, Mary Jane Warrenfeltz and Evelyn Jobe. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She will also be remembered by her dear friend Louise Cline and many other friends at the Taney Village. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Anna Hall, Helen Summers, Harry Swomley, Jr, Charles Swomley and Thelma Coblentz.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, for a memorial visitation on Thursday, December 28, 2006 from 5 - 8 p.m.
Services: A Memorial service will be held Friday, December 29, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. David Coblentz officiating. Interment private.
