Cheryl Jeanne Kershner

Cheryl Jeanne Gettys Kershner, age 78, of Knoxville MD, passed away at home under the care of Frederick Hospice on March 26, 2023. Cheryl was born in Hartford City, Indiana on April 4, 1944 to James and Edna Gettys. She is survived by her husband Dr John W Kershner of 54 years, her brother Donald (Cyndie) Gettys, daughter Heidi (Rob) Knipple of Spangle WA, son John E (Melissa) Kershner of Spangle WA. She was preceded in death by a son, John M Kershner in 1972. Cheryl is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Hannah, James, Micah, Ava and Zane.

Cheryl graduated from Loma Linda University with her nursing degree in 1968. She met John at LLU, where he was studying dentistry. They married and moved to Frederick MD to begin their life together. Cheryl found her true vocation as a stay-at-home mom. She pursued many hours in her passion of quilting, making countless contributions of her talents to the Frederick Quilt Guild. She was an avid traveler, traveling to all 50 of the United States as well as 57 countries. She and her husband John established a dental clinic in Zaoksky Russia in 1992. Above all, Cheryl was very devoted to her family, friends and church community. She had a strong faith and hope in the soon return of Jesus, wanting nothing less than to see her family and friends in heaven one day.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at the Frederick Seventh-day Adventist Church at 1pm on Sunday, April 2. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Frederick SDA Church are appreciated.
