Christine shared 43 loving years of marriage with her husband, Wesley E. Blumenauer.

Christine Louise Blumenauer, age 68, a cherished longtime resident of Middletown, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with vascular dementia. She was born on January 16, 1958, in Wheeling, WV, to the late Robert J. Smith, Sr. and Valerie L. Smith of Frederick, Maryland. Christine shared 43 loving years of marriage with her husband, Wesley E. Blumenauer.

Christine graduated from Thomas Johnson High School as part of the Class of 1977. Early in her career, she spent several years at Frederick County National Bank, initially working as a bank teller before transitioning to the accounting department. Before retiring in October 2021, she worked as a member of the accounting team at Frederick Health Hospital.

Christine first met Wesley in May 1981 at the Frederick Elks Club during a lively bingo night. Wesley was calling out the bingo numbers when, during a brief intermission, a winning patron anonymously introduced Christine to him. After dating for a year and a half, they were married in October 1982 at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick, MD. They had two sons: Brian, born in 1986, and James, born in 1993. She was always incredibly supportive and proud of her boys, consistently encouraging them and pushing them to do their best. At just three years old, Brian was diagnosed with leukemia, and the only available hope for treatment was a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, no suitable donor match could be found on the National Bone Marrow Registry. Christine was tested and found to be a close enough match to donate her bone marrow for Brian's transplant. Although the transplant brought hope and was initially successful, Brian sadly lost his battle after a few months. Christine dedicated countless hours volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, Braddock Heights Pack & Troop 278, supporting her son James and his scouting friends to ensure they had a rewarding experience. As a devoted and enthusiastic mom, she was always cheering James on from the sidelines during his lacrosse games and golf matches.

Christine found joy in scrapbooking, word search puzzles, and crocheting. Above all, she was deeply passionate about supporting her son's interests in high school and college sports, as well as his involvement in youth scouting activities. An avid NASCAR fan, her favorite drivers were Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott. She also loved watching professional golf, her favorite morning game shows, and a few soap operas on television. For the past 21 years, she and Wesley cherished spending time at their vacation home at Alpine Lake in Terra Alta, WV.

She was always incredibly supportive and proud of her boys, consistently encouraging them and pushing them to do their best.

Christine is survived by her son, James Blumenauer (and his wife Libby) of Monrovia, MD, and her brother, Robert J. Smith, Jr., of Frederick, MD. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian W. Blumenauer.
