Christine Ann Holtzmuller

August 29, 1946 — September 23, 2025

Frederick

Christine Ann “Cris” (Shearer) Holtzmuller, 79, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 29, 1946, in Fostoria, Ohio, Cris graduated from Lakota High School in Kansas, Ohio, in 1964. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ohio Northern University in 1968.

Cris was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Ned; her children, Michelle (Chris) Thomas, Monica Filyaw, and Jon Holtzmuller; her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Thomas (and her fiancé Noah Wilde), Ella Holtzmuller, Casey Thomas, Brianna Filyaw, and Kiersten Filyaw; and the ever loyal family dogs Zeus, Whiskey, Tango, and Fhoebe. She also leaves behind her younger sister, Cindy Stahl, and her nieces and nephews: Teri (Jim) Swaisgood, Dwain (Maricar) Stahl, and Tammy (Rob McDaid) Stahl, along with many adoring great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Marjorie Shearer, and her brother-in-law George Stahl.

Cris was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star Farmersville, OH #155.

A trailblazer for her daughters and granddaughters, Cris built a distinguished 39-year career in corporate accounting as a Certified Public Accountant with a specialization in tax. She began her professional journey at Haskins & Sells (a predecessor of Deloitte) and ultimately retired as Manager of International Tax at MeadWestvaco. Cris was highly respected in her field, serving as President of the Association for Computers & Taxation (ACT) along with other board positions for more than ten years. She was also a Committee Chair for the Tax Executive Institute (TEI).

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Cris was a devoted member of her community. For over 21 years, she served in various leadership roles on the board of her Homeowners Association in Centerville, Ohio. She was also actively involved in her children’s booster clubs and remained a proud and enthusiastic supporter of her grandchildren’s pursuits from across the country.

Cris's legendary chocolate chip cookies — always baked with love and shared generously — brought comfort and joy to all who had the pleasure of tasting them. She will be remembered for her intelligence, leadership, dedication to family, and the quiet strength with which she lived her life.

A private service for immediate family will be held, with a celebration of life planned for the summer to honor Cris’s memory with all who loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Ohio Northern University (onu.edu/give), Wake County, NC EMS (wemsfoundation.org) or a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Cris.
