Christine Marie Pellak, 75, of Mount Airy, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Frederick Health Hospital with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Joseph Pellak, Jr. for over 55 years.
Born on July 6, 1949, in Herkimer, New York, she was the daughter of the late John Stephen Konn and Anne (Ketz) Konn.
She was a graduate of Watervliet High School.
Chris retired from Security Engineering (the family business she co-owned with her husband Joe.) so she could spend more time with her family. But long before that, her first job was in a bakery where she fell in love with making and sharing treats with others. This love of sweets stayed with her throughout her life as she loved sharing her homemade Christmas cookies, chocolate covered candies and Rum Balls with anyone that asked. Whether you were a customer, employee, friend or family, if you asked for her Christmas treats, you were sure to get a box. When asked, she would say her most important job was being a Baba. And that was the job she took the most pride in. She was the most loving mother and grandmother (Baba.)
Additionally, she worked at Allstate Insurance before Security Engineering. At Allstate, she typed out tapes of dictation. She could type 120+ words per minute which allowed her to take the work home, type it all out, and then return it to the office. She loved the freedom and flexibility it gave her to raise her family.
Chris was a member of Frederick Moose 371, Frederick Elks #684, and the Baseball Grandmothers Club.
She logged countless volunteer hours over the years: PTA, Room Mom, Tee Ball Coach, Bingo at the Moose and Elks, Election Official (she loved filling her Civic duty) & a NMES school volunteer long after her kids had graduated. She made it her full time job to attend every grandkids' school performance, ball game, ninja competition and event...even flying back from her winter home in Florida. Chris had many interests including visits to the casino to play poker, catching a movie with Joe or a grandkid and playing bingo with whoever wanted to go. But her favorite pastime was playing cards and games around the kitchen table with her family. Additionally, she was a connoisseur of Ted's Fish Fry and Gus's Hot Dogs.
She was the #1 fan for Jackson, Samantha and Sarah in all their sports. Baba was their biggest cheerleader often finding herself the loudest one on the sidelines.
When it came to football, she was a proud lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins. She and Joe enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons watching the game on delay to avoid the commercials. She was an expert at avoiding score spoilers.
In addition to her husband Joe, she is survived by her son, Eric John Pellak and wife Lisa, and daughter, Melanie Marie Nicholson and husband Brian. Additionally, she was Big Sister to Barb Ryan and her husband Jim; Baba to Jackson, Samantha and Sarah; and Tete to Kevin, Kelsey and Emily.
