Claire Ann Ward Kondig

Claire Ann Ward Kondig, 82, of Frederick Maryland, passed away peacefully at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy Maryland, June 17th, 2026.

Claire Ann was born July 27, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Dr. Paul M. Ward and Ruth H. Ward.

She graduated from Mt. Union College, now known as University of Mount Union, in Alliance Ohio, in 1965 with a degree in teaching. 

After graduating she moved to Frederick, Maryland to teach eighth grade English at West Frederick Junior High School, now known as West Frederick Middle school. She married John P. Kondig in 1967 and had one son, Paul R. Kondig in 1971. 

 She would go back to teaching evening classes at Governor Thomas Johnson High school, and eventually teaching eight grade English at Brunswick Middle school.

As her professional career continued, Claire would move on from teaching to pursue a career as a school administrator. Claire was first an assistant in training at T.J. Middle school. After some time in that position she moved to Thurmont Middle school, where she was an Assistant Principal, and then Principal, serving for seventeen years.

After retiring, she still had a passion for teaching. She was employed at Hood College where she helped shape the minds of future teachers.

Claire was a member of the League of Women's Voters, Frederick County Chapter. Claire served as the President, and Treasurer, of the LWV in Frederick. She was a member of the Torch Club of Frederick where she along with her husband John; were treasures. She was also a member of Frederick Toastmasters, and the Frederick Art Club, along with several book clubs.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Kondig, son Paul R. Kondig, and her sister Nancy Beeghly and her husband Bruce.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Frederick Health Hospice.
