Claire Ann Ward Kondig

Claire Ann Ward Kondig, 82, of Frederick Maryland, passed away peacefully at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy Maryland, June 17th, 2026.

Claire Ann was born July 27th, 1943 in Cleveland OH, to Dr. Paul M. Ward and Ruth H. Ward.

After graduating from Mt. Union College now University in Alliance OH, in 1965 with a degree in teaching. She moved to Frederick Maryland to teach 8th grade English at West Frederick Junior High now Middle school. She married John P. Kondig in 1967 and had one son Paul R. Kondig in 1971. Latter she would go back to teaching evening high school at Governor Thomas Johnson High school. Latter moving to teaching 8th Grade English at Brunswick Middle school.

Latter Claire would leave teaching to pursue a career as a school administrator. First as an assistant in training at T.J. Middle school. Eventually, moving to Thurmont Middle school first as assistant principal, and latter, principal. Serving for seventeen years.

After retiring, she had a job at HOOD College of Frederick MD, working with future teachers.

Claire was a member of the Frederick County chapter of the League of Women voters where she was president twice and latter served as treasure. She was a member of the Torch Club of Frederick where she along with her husband John; were treasures. She was also a member of Frederick Toastmasters, and the Frederick Art Club, and several book clubs.

She is survived by her husband John P. Kondig and one son Paul R. Kondig, plus her sister Nancy Beeghly and her husband Bruce.

A celebration of life is planned for a latter date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Frederick Health Hospice.
