Coy Phillips

Coy Phillips, 99, of Keedysville, MD, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at his home with his loving family by his side.  He was born on July 4, 1924 in Newark, Arkansas, the son of the late Clyde and Hazel (Melton) Phillips. 

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was employed early in his career by Gustin Gardens Landscaping in Rockville, MD, then later was a self-employed landscaper, until he retired at age 90. 

Coy married the love of his life, Dorothy Elizabeth (Via) Phillips on July 17, 1946, and in July 2023 they celebrated 77 years together.

Coy enjoyed gardening, fishing in the Potomac River, trapping and going to auctions. He enjoyed visiting his family in his home state of Arkansas, vacationing in Long Beach Island, NJ with family, and trips out west with his wife to the Grand Canyon. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, who were the center of his life. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Phillips; children, Linda Haag of NY, Coylene Beagle (Randy) of Hagerstown, Judy Suffecool (Jim) of Waynesboro, PA, Tracy Mitchell of Hagerstown, Joyce Phillips of Keedysville; and daughter-in-law, Linda Phillips of New Market; six grandchildren, Jered Haag (Krissy); Rebecca Phillips, Sarah Lloyd (Zach); Katelyn Dubyk (Todd), Zachery Hastings and Dylan Mitchell; eight great-grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Josh, Ty, Keilani, Bryce, Ryleigh and Kayden; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Merle Hughes and Mildred Flynn; his son, Ronald Phillps; and sons-in-law, Todd Mitchell and Kenneth Haag.

A celebration of Coy's life journey will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the funeral home in Boonsboro.
