Daniel Garry Pollen

Listen to Obituary

Daniel Garry Pollen passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on 06-12-2026 with his daughter, Tammy Stright, her partner, Terry Schlesener and granddaughter, Caitlin Stright by his side.

Daniel graduated from the Damascus High School in 1969. After graduating he went to work for the Montgomery Co Public School System. He retired after 41 years of dedicated service. He made a lot of friends and worked with many collogues while working there. Daniel lived in Mt. Airy for 55 years.

He had the passion for old cars, especially Ford Mustangs, Corvettes, and even a Ford Galaxy. He loved buying, driving, and selling them over the early years of his life. Daniel also loved fishing, hunting and country music dancing. If you were looking for Daniel on the weekends, I’m sure you would find him on a dance floor, dancing and kicking up his boots on the dance floor. You couldn’t miss spotting him because he dressed very flashy with his fancy western shirts, long tailed black duster, cowboy hat and boots. While fishing in Canada, he caught a king salmon which he proudly displayed on his living room wall.

Let us not forget that if there was an auction anywhere within 50 miles from his house, he would be there. He loved buying and selling things at the auction. He always looked for cool buys and would come home and tell his best friends, his neighbors about his purchases.

Many people remember Daniel in Mount Airy. He would be spotted later in life cruising up and down the streets on his electric 4-wheel scooter. As he cruised by, he would smile and wave.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Stright, her partner, Terry Schlesener; 2 half-brothers, Randy and Dean Smallwood; grandchildren, Caitlin Stright, her dad, Thomas Stright; Brandi Morris and her husband Phillip Morris, Shawn Stright and his wife Marica Stright, Christopher Fossett and his wife Leah Fossett; great grandchildren, Emma Fossett, Lexy Flowers, Abby Flowers, and Maggie Flowers; former wife Helen Mercer; his deceased father and mother, Russell Homer Pollen and Betty Joyce Ketterman. He developed special friendships over the years with church friends at Mount Airy Baptist Church on 1402 N Main St, Mount Airy, MD 21771
