Darlene Elizabeth Fogle McKnight

August 21, 1945 — May 10, 2023

Frederick

Darlene Elizabeth Fogle McKnight has passed away on 10th May 2023 at her birthplace, Frederick Maryland, due to Dementia. She was surrounded by her loving family. Darlene was born on 21st August 1945 to John Fogle and Helen Burchey Fogle in Maryland.

Darlene attended Frederick High School and graduated with the class of 1963. It was during her high school years when she discovered her talent for twirling , becoming the Head Majorette at Frederick High School. She formed an independent group called the Highlighters Majorette and Drum Corp that performed and entertained audiences for ten years. However, her greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

After graduation, Darlene worked at Weil Brothers and Universal Lusitinia for many years.  Later she took a job as Secretary for the State Highway Administration, retiring in 2005.

In her free time, Darlene had many hobbies and interests such as gardening, watching QVC and HSN, feeding birds and squirrels on her front porch, but above all else she loved traveling with her husband Frank McKnight; they travelled around the globe together! She also enjoyed collecting seashells during their visits to Myrtle Beach and exploring numerous islands in South Carolina. She also enjoyed her visits to Sanibel Island in Florida.

Darlene was known to be passionate about New York Yankees baseball games; she attended several games over the years! She also enjoyed attending live concerts of Country music and Old Rock and Roll music.

Darlene McKnight was a true animal lover who cherished every moment spent with their dogs while being a role model of kindness to her Great Granddaughter Aleah Poole.

Frank McKnight was her husband during their beautiful 56-year-long marriage. Together they had a daughter: Christi Fleagle and her husband, Zachary Fleagle, as well as two lovely granddaughters - Kasey Fleagle and Taylor Fleagle and her companion David Poole, and great-granddaughter Aleah Poole lovingly nicknamed Sunny. She also leaves behind loving nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Darlene touched the lives of everyone she met; her kindness knew no bounds. She was more than a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She was an angel sent from above who touched the hearts of many people with her infectious smile and warm personality. She will be missed dearly but her memory cherished forever.

The family will receive friends on May 15th, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.  The Celebration of life service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00pm.
