Listen to Obituary

Darlene Dee Wilt, 73, of Adamstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at her home. She was the loving wife to Mikael David Wilt for 53 years, and devoted mother of Veronica Rae (Wilt).

Born on October 29, 1952, in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of Elizabeth “Betty” (King) Baker of Mt. Airy and the late Oliver Lee Baker.

She was a 1970 graduate of South Carroll High School in Sykesville, MD.

Following high school, she spent five years at the Atomic Energy Commission (Department of Energy) where she was recognized for her accomplishments, followed by three years at the Aerospace Commission. She took some time off following the birth of her daughter Veronica, and reentered the workforce in various clerical and secretarial positions until finally landing her dream job with History Associates Incorporated (HAI) in 1989. She quickly rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming the IT Director, and was named Employee of the Year in 1998. During her 35 year career there, she developed countless friendships that continue to this day.

Darlene had a personality that made everyone around her feel like a friend. Her quick wit, dry sense of humor, and her ability to laugh at herself made her a joy to be around (unless you were the target of her sarcastic jabs!). She was the most non-judgmental, caring person most of us have ever known. Not only was she an amazing friend to so many, she was also an incredible mother, daughter, and sister. She left a lasting positive impact on anyone and everyone who met her.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her loving daughter Veronica (Wilt) Sellier and her husband Sten, as well as grandchildren Camille, Cosette, and Max, all of Sterling, VA. Additional survivors include her sister Marilyn (Baker) Meagher and husband Brian of Ocean City, MD, brother Terry Baker and his wife Cindy of Mt. Airy, nephews Patrick Salisbury of Salisbury, MD, Jeffrey Baker and is wife Amber of Mt. Airy (children Cooper and Piper), niece Valerie (Baker) Shekore and husband Brian of Mt. Airy (children Jackson and Kelsey), sister-in-law Lori (Wilt) Skidmore and husband Gary of Hamilton, VA, and nephew Grant Skidmore and wife Jennifer of Bluemont, VA (children Audrey and Hadley). She is also survived by countless relatives and dear friends whom she held close to her heart for many, many years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Lee Baker of Mt. Airy.
