David Bruce Blanchard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025 at Fairhaven in Sykesville, Maryland.
Born November 12, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland. David served in the US Navy then attended Johns Hopkins University where he majored in Chemistry. He spent his career working at NIST as a forensic chemist.
Dave’s life was defined by devotion to family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Kathleen Hock (Kathie). Together they built a life centered around love, support, and service to others. Dave is survived by his children; Patricia Gwilliam (David), Anne Eastlake (Micheal), Mary Alberthal (Justin), and Kathleen Spicer (Jason). Grandchildren Jack Gwilliam (Tori), Katie Gwilliam, Christopher and Erin Eastlake, Elizabeth Alberthal, Kevin, Kelly, Kaitlyn, Kortney, Kristen, Kinley and Kora Spicer Matthew Kusterer (Abi) eight great-grandchildren and other loving family and friends, who will forever carry forward his legacy of compassion and strength. He is predeceased by his daughter Janet Kusterer and grandson Shawn Kusterer
In his free time, David found joy in gardening, being active in church activities and playing with his beloved dog Lady. He also loved playing with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or share a laugh with those around him. His warm presence and generous heart made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
A mass of resurrection to celebrate David’s life will be held on October 4,2025 at St Micheal’s Roman Catholic Church in Poplar Springs. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow mass at St Micheal’s cemetery. The family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his memory.
The family extends deep gratitude to the staff at Fairhaven for their compassionate care during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
