David L. Miller

May 9, 1946 — December 10, 2025

Rehoboth Beach, DE, Walkersville and Frederick, MD

David L. Miller, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Walkersville and Frederick, Maryland, loving husband of Lois Joseph Miller, passed away on December 10, 2025 at Frederick Health Hospital.

Born on May 9, 1946 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to the late Russell and Shirley Miller. He was preceded in death by his brother, Craig Miller.

David was a remarkable teacher, coach, and friend. His passing leaves a space that words can scarcely fill. He touched countless lives with his unwavering kindness, steady guidance, and fierce dedication. On the court and in the classroom, he inspired greatness not by demanding perfection, but by showing every student and every player the greatness he already saw within them.

He was an incredible man, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a masterful educator who knew how to reach hearts as well as minds. His influence lives on in our character, our choices, and the way we carry ourselves in this world.

David earned his BS degree from Edinboro State University. He taught in Montgomery County, Maryland, at Poolesville High School for 13 years, and then for 23 years at Walkersville High School, where he also coached basketball. At WHS, he won two State Championships and was immensely proud of all the young men who played at both schools.

He went on to coach at Frederick Community College for 25 years, and after retiring from head coaching, served as Assistant Coach at Shippensburg University. For his decades of dedication to basketball, David was inducted into five Halls of Fame.

Beyond teaching and coaching, David enjoyed playing golf in the summer with his many groups of friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Joseph Miller; their son, Brian Miller (Tina) of Walkersville, Maryland; two beloved grandchildren, Bryce Miller (Houston House) of Denver, Colorado, and Jordyn Miller, who were the loves of his life; two brothers, James Miller (Denise) of Millsboro, Delaware, and Keith Miller (Jane) of Stow, Ohio; three nieces, one nephew, two great-nephews, and one great-niece.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Walkersville Fire Banquet Hall. A private family interment will follow the service.
