David Anthony Meddaugh

David Anthony Meddaugh, 82, of Germantown, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Frederick Health & Rehab in Frederick, MD.

David was born on August 6, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA to David (Tate) McHarris and Helen M. Meddaugh. He spent his childhood in Lawnside, NJ, where he enjoyed his friends and various extra-curricular activities such as track and field, boy scouts, drama club and bicycle riding. David spent the first 2 years of high school at Haddon Heights High School.

In 1956, his mother Helen married a wonderful man named Grafton Hunley, who loved David as his own son. Grafton affectionately called David “Mr. Gentleman” because he felt that David was so mannerly. As a newly formed family, they moved to Camden, NJ and David finished his high school education at Camden High School and graduated in 1959.

Many of the friendships that David made as a child in Lawnside and during his high school years at both high schools were friendships that he kept and cherished for a lifetime. These friends, who were like his brothers, affectionately called him “Tony”. David graduated from LaSalle University with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. From the early 1970’s on, he was, along with other programmers, a pioneer in the development of computer technology. His professional career included employment with companies such as IBM, GE, Sun Oil Co. and NASA.

On August 2,1963, David married, the late Edwina F. McNeal and in 1967 had one child from their union, Dana Rene Meddaugh (Gaines). Years later, on December 26,1988, David married the late Jean Darmanie, and enjoyed their relationship along with loving her 4 children, Philip, David, Robert and Michelle. David became Jean’s encourager and cheerleader as she bravely fought her lengthy battle with cancer.

On March 29, 2002 David married Leona Rene Pruitt. David enjoyed their marriage along with loving her 3 children, Monique, Keith and Olivia and was affectionately called “Fazy”. David and Leona enjoyed many aspects of their marriage but they were most passionate about mentoring and fostering children in hopes that the children would have a loving and safe environment to call “home”.

David A. Meddaugh leaves to mourn his wife, Leona Rene Meddaugh. His daughter, Dana Gaines (John); grandchildren, Christopher Collins II (Talisha), Christian Collins (Tykia), Dana-Rene’ Gaines, and DeJanae Gaines; great-grandchildren, Christian Collins Jr., Aubrey Collins and Jaire Collins.
