David Lynn Sturtz, 73 of Middletown, MD went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 27, 2024. Husband of Myrtle Barron Sturtz for 49 1/2 years. Born August 25, 1950 in Somerset, PA, the son of the late John R. and Celda Sturtz of Stoystown; 1968 graduate of Shanksville High School, 1978 graduate of Montgomery College with an Associate in Arts degree; Went to work for what is known today as the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and its predecessors (NIMA, DMA, AMS) the day after he graduated from high school retiring in April 2007, but continued to work as a contractor for 4 more years finally retiring in 2011; Longtime member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren, the Pathfinders SS Class where he served as the treasurer and helped in the kitchen to prepare many meals ; Member of the Middletown VFD auxiliary where he served as flag bearer, assistant treasurer, and served on many committees. 4-H Volunteer for 28 years; Maryland 4-H All Star; enjoyed working in the Farm and Garden Building at the GFF and judging Field and Garden Crops in the 4-H Building at the GFF and community shows; enjoyed gardening and for several years was the top grower in the nation for chrysanthemums winning many awards; enjoyed fishing and deer hunting; enjoyed dabbling in the stock market; enjoyed spending time at his mountain in Rohersville; granddaughters were his pride and joy.
Survived by son, Stephen (Donna),Hagerstown, MD, daughter Shannon Unger (Kevin), Williamsport, MD and granddaughters, Olivia Sturtz, Riley Sturtz, Emily Unger, Katie Unger. Also survived by brother, Leroy and sisters Linda Barron (James), Somerset, PA and Sharon Speelman (David), Friedens, PA; survived also by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
There will be no viewing. Interment will be private. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Frederick County 4-H (University of Maryland), 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD 21702 or Frederick Church of the Brethren Deacon Fund, Frederick, MD 21701.
