Dean Alben Remsberg, 74, of Jefferson, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at his home.  He was the husband of nearly 38 years to Deborah (Guard) Remsberg.  Born on September 17, 1949, in Frederick, he was the son of Ira Souder Remsberg and Bessie (Brown) Remsberg.

Dean was a 1967 graduate of Brunswick High School.  He worked at Triangle Shell in Frederick for many years, until he and his nephew, Jim House, started Jefferson Auto Service in 1984.  He co-owned and operated the garage until his retirement in 2005.  From 2005 until 2020, Dean drove a special needs school bus for Frederick County Public Schools.

Mr. Remsberg was a charter member of Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company in 1970, serving as Lieutenant from 1970 to 1975, Captain from 1976 to 1978, Assistant Chief from 1979 to 1994, and as Chief from 1995 to 1999.  He was also a longtime member of Frederick Baptist Church.

Dean enjoyed attending and coaching his kids' sporting events.  He loved going on train rides, feeding the birds, NASCAR and going on family vacations.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Hillary Bohanan and husband Gary; and son, Jacob Remsberg.  He is also survived by three grandchildren: Hudson, Adalynn and Madison Remsberg; parents-in-law, George and Martha Guard, brother-in-law Gary Guard, Sr.and wife Dorinda; sisters-in-law: Sharon Runkles and husband Scott, and Jo Stehle and husband Richard; as well as his nieces and nephews: Tim "Monk" House, Jim House and wife Yolanda, Jay House and wife Roxanne, Melissa Remsberg, Tate Stehle and wife Lauren, Gary Guard, Jr. and wife Blaire, Evan Runkles, Amy Landis and husband Chris, and Madeline Runkles as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances "Shay" House; his brother, Merhl Remsberg, brother-in-law Arthur House and sisters-in-law Catherine Remsberg and Joyce Remsberg.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick.  A celebration of Dean's life journey will take place on Friday, February 2 at 11:00 am at Frederick Baptist Church, 5305 Mt. Zion Road in Frederick.  Pastor John Seay will officiate.  Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company or to Frederick Baptist Church.
