Delmar Lee Speak, 89, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born May 26, 1935 in Frederick, Maryland, Delmar was the son of the late Clarance Franklin Speak Sr., and Lillian Idelle Trail. Delmar held fond memories of his childhood home on Wisner Street and the strong friendships he formed throughout his youth.
He graduated from Frederick High School in 1953, always taking great pride in his school and lifelong friends. In 1960, Delmar began his dedicated career with Donald B. Rice Tire Company, where he worked tirelessly for 45 years, progressing from a tire changer to a service manager and eventually a tire salesman. He often spoke fondly of his mentor, Mr. Rice, and the lessons he learned throughout his career.
Delmar was deeply devoted to his family. He shared 62 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Barba, before her passing on Feb 8, 2024. Their household was filled with joy Raising their 2 daughters and with the presence of their cherished family dogs, FiFi and Cherry Pie.
Among his greatest joys was being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished his time with his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter, delighting in their milestones and the happiness they brought into his life.
Delmar was a diehard Washington Redskins fan, #HTTR, cheering on his team with enthusiasm throughout his life. Whether he was watching games with family or riding around in his Redskins VW Bug, his love for the sport, and especially the joy of defeating the Cowboys-was evident to everyone who knew him.
During the last 16 months of his life, Delmar resided at Heartfield’s of Frederick, where he was surrounded by compassionate care, warmth, and unwavering support. Despite the challenges of dementia, he embraced new friendships and found comfort in the kindness of the staff. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Heartfield's Memory Care for their dedication, kindness, and the love they showed Delmar throughout his journey. Their support was truly a blessing, and they will always be remembered for the care they provided.
Delmar leaves behind his loving family. Daughters Karen (Charlie), Colleen (John); Grandchildren Donnie (Caroline); Amber (Joey) and great-granddaughter Carmen. Delmar always treasured reminiscing about his childhood and the special moments shared with his siblings. He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters: Gloria (Tootsie), Clarence (Junie), Donald, Thomas, Patricia, Robert, and Wayne.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Delmar leaves behind several beloved brothers-and sisters-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart. The family extends their gratitude to Pastor Morgan, Hospice of Frederick, and Heartfield's Assisted Living for their kindness and support.
A celebration of Delmar’s life will be held on June 21 at 11:00 AM at Evangelical Reformed Church UCC, officiated by Pastor Morgan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evangelical Reformed Church UCC 15 W Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701 In his honor.
