Delores Ann Brightwell

May 10, 1940 — November 5, 2022

Rohrersville

Delores Ann Brightwell passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

She was born to the late Margaret Roberta and Kingsley George Richardson on May 10, 1940, in Washington, D.C. She was known as Dody to all friends and family.

Hearing the gospel, she received Christ Jesus as her Savior in 1964. She wished to thank her pastors, teachers, and mentors for faithfully teaching the truth of God's word. She attended Sunday School, worship service and volunteered. Her greatest desire was for the unsaved to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, become a disciple of Christ, and serve Him faithfully.

Dody was blessed in marriage for sixty-four years to her husband, Elzie "Tom" Brightwell, Jr. In addition to her husband, Tom, she will be missed by her children, Steven (Karen), Susan Free, Brenda (Preston) Shaw, and Jeffrey (Ella); grandchildren, Dallas (Sara) Selby, Ashley (Steven) Crncic, Denali Free (Connor Timms), Rachel Brightwell, Blake, Preston Jr., Ty and Sawyer Shaw; great-grandchildren, Aaron and Nathan Selby, Tessa and Atlas Crncic, Easton Brightwell, and Brantley Miller; stepgrandchildren, Paul, Kevin and Katelin Williams; stepgreat-grandchildren, Dylan (Leslie) Free, Paisley and Brayden Jordan; stepgreat-great-grandchild, Camden Free.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Harry Free; grandson, Joshua Free; and stepgrandson, Harry Free, II.

Dody was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the face and voice of reason, wisdom, kindness, grace and mercy. She was known as Gee-Gee, and all her grandchildren were loved for their individual interests and talents. An avid reader and library patron, Dody collected book marks, cook books, recipes and dishware. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, taking photos and especially loved preparing holiday meals for her family with conversations around the table.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

A church service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Faith Baptist Church with a time of visitation an hour prior to service. Pastor Kevin Marr will officiate. Burial will be held at Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted on behalf of Delores Brightwell at Faith Baptist Church, 2212 Jefferson Pike, Knoxville, MD 21758 and Hospice of Washington County, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
