It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Demetri James Xinis. Demetri is now with his beautiful late wife, Betty (Constance).

He was an incredible husband, friend, brother, and most of all a loving Father and Grandfather. A renaissance man who dedicated his life to his family and friends to the fullest. Demetri was born in Chysohori, a small village in the Gortynia region of Arkadia in Pellaponisos Greece. In 1946, he with his family left during the Greek Civil war. They lived in the Penteli region of Athens and later settled in western Athens in Aigaleo. Later in his twenties, he studied theater in The National School of Dramatic Arts in Athens. He was an understudy of the director Michael Cacoyiannis (Zorba the Greek). In 1962, He was drafted in the Greek Army and was a lieutenant in a supply depot in a base outside of Athens.

Demetri and Betty were married in September 1965, and By January 1966, he moved to the United States and later settled in Ronkonkoma New York. He worked as an electrician on textile machinery and went to many places all over the United States and worldwide. He was highly regarded by all of his customers and venerated by the leading textile machinery manufacturers all over the world. By 2007, Demetri retired and with Betty left New York to settle in Frederick Maryland. For many years Demetri led an active life of playing poker, and was a Member of the Frederick Moose lodge. He was also an avid coin and stamp collector being a member of the Frederick coin club, the Frederick stamp club, and the Hagerstown stamp club. In the summers, he traveled back to Greece to spend time with his family.

He leaves behind his daughter, Paula of Hyattsville MD, his son Corneilus (Neil) of Frederick MD, his Grandson Adamah Ross Adams, his sister Vaso Fragadakis of Greece, and many nieces and nephews. Viewing is from 11am to 3pm and the service is at 3pm.
