Dennis Wayne Stottlemyer

September 26, 1950 — September 19, 2025

Boonsboro

Dennis W. "Denny" Stottlemyer, 74, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Williamsport Health and Rehab, with his wife by his side, after a long and bravely borne battle with kidney disease, including eight years on dialysis.

Born on September 26, 1950, in Hagerstown, MD, Denny was the son of Harold "Peck" Stottlemyer and Vergie Marie Myers Stottlemyer, both deceased. Denny was a 1968 graduate of Boonsboro High School, where he proudly played for the Warriors Football Team. He then attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, becoming well known for his spirited performances as the Hopkins Blue Jay mascot. He went on to work for Santos Construction Company for 35 years, during which he came to know nearly every curb and street in Maryland. He was also a member of the Hagerstown Elks, American Legion, and a former member and officer of the Kent Island Yacht Club.

A true Marylander, Denny loved good seafood and boating, and throughout his life owned several boats, including the formidable Spitfire-which, to the amusement of family and friends, spent far more time as a landmark in his Mount Lena yard than it ever did in the water. His last boat was the Eclipse II. A natural performer, he loved to sing and entertained for years at Hamlin’s Piano Bar in Severna Park, MD. He also had a deep appreciation for Broadway shows and possessed a gift for storytelling, drawing from a life that provided him with no shortage of material.

In later years, Denny especially enjoyed traveling with his wife Debbie, taking cruises and adventures to Hawaii, Canada, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Caribbean, and Alaska. Yet home was always Mt. Lena, in the house his father built 78 years ago in 1947.

Denny will be remembered for his warm personality, his love of music and the water, his humor and gift for storytelling, and his courage in facing illness with grace. Above all, his devotion to his wife and his family were a hallmark of his life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters-in-law Marjorie Morgan Horvath and Joan Morgan Johnson, as well as brother-in-law and fraternity brother, Jim Johnson Jr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Deborah Morgan Stottlemyer; and his brother, Gregory Lynne Stottlemyer (Lucia). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, with especially close relationships to Susan Rogers (Brian), Catherine Leigh Johnson (Rick), Raphael Stottlemyer, Zack Stottlemyer (Emily), Vania Myers (Matthew), and Henry Horvath. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law, Marilyn Erb and Mary Beth Morgan, brothers-in-law David Morgan (Lynne) and John Morgan, and a large extended circle of grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, on what would have been his 75th birthday, at Mt. Lena United Methodist Church, 21234 Mount Lena Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713.
