Diane Irene Huffer Smith

Diane Irene Huffer Smith (92) passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Fahrney-Keedy Assisted Living Facility in Boonsboro, MD.

She was born on January 15, 1933, in Trego, Maryland and was the daughter of the late Wilbur Alfred Huffer and Gladys Irene Mullendore Huffer.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Hessong Smith, Jr. in 2017.

Diane was a 1951 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She was employed at Strole-Wright Insurance Agency before becoming a full-time homemaker. Diane loved tending to her flower gardens at home. She was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church.

Diane is survived by her brother Delbert Huffer and wife Delores; her children: Bret Smith and wife Wendy, Mark Smith and wife Lori, and Gina Smith Moss and husband Randy; 4 grandchildren: Bradley Smith, Ashley Spencer (Stephen), Amanda Socks (Nathan), and Joshua Smith; 6 great-grandchildren: Arolyn Socks, Mila Socks, Dominic Smith, Eleanor Spencer, Xander Smith and Braxton Smith; three nieces: Karen Smith, Teresa Shifler, and Kimberly Huffer; seven great nieces and nephews, and ten great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Diane was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred (Fred) Mullendore Huffer in 2009 and a niece, Lori Gudgeon in 2024.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00am in Boonsboro Cemetery.
