Dolores Erskine

March 26, 1941 — February 19, 2022

Dolores Ann Erskine, 80, of Newville, Pennsylvania passed from this life on Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Born on March 26, 1941, Keokee, Virginia.  She was the daughter of Thelma Mae Vernon.

Our mother, a sweet lady with a kind heart, always wanting the best for her family and everyone around her.  Her laugh, spontaneous nature and genuine loving spirit will always be remembered.  "We Love You Mom."

Dolores lived her life with passion and complete dedication to her FAMILY, nothing in life brought her more joy and happiness than having her family together.  When she was surrounded by her family, she would just sit and SMILE.  She loved big, had her huge opinions, and wasn't afraid to say exactly what was on her mind.  But, when you were with her you always knew one thing, how much she LOVED you.  Her heart was KIND, she found joy in helping family, friends, and even strangers. Dolores would buy a stranger a meal if they were hungry.

Dolores loved to travel, she would never miss the opportunity to go anywhere, be it to Scotland with her husband, Fred, or a spontaneous trip with her sisters to "where we going, who cares....let's GO".  She had a love for animals, and chose her last house because it overlooked a pasture full of horses.  She loved to entertain kids and after retiring, she even attended Clown School and was so proud of her new costume and act.  Capturing family memories on film was a love of hers, she was the best at it, so good in fact that we have decades of photos of everyone except her....because she was behind the camera.

A recent quote from a Vernon cousin...."I met her once at the last family reunion, sat beside her and loved her, not just because she was family but because of her joyful bantering and love she had for you all.  When a Vernon loves you, they love you faithfully, completely and they are fiercely protective.  She sure did love you all fiercely."

She is survived by her husband, Fred Erskine III; "her boys", Cecil Jack Hensley, Jr., Raymond Andrew Hensley and wife, Tina, Donald Jeffrey Hensley, David Wayne Hensley and wife, Dawn; step-son, Fred Erskine, IV and wife, Becca.  Also, "moms grand babies", DJ Poorman, Sarah Hensley, Jordan Hensley, Jakob Hensley, Erica Lewis and husband, Justin, Zachary Hensley, Trevor Hensley, Taylor Hensley, Ashton Hensley, and Alva Erskine; and her great-grandbaby's, Nathan, Jonah, Rylan, Kamryn, Karley, Easton, River, Jaxon.  Mom's loving brothers and sisters, Shirley Kapeluch, Wanda McIntyre, Noah Vernon, CJ Vernon, Faris Vernon, Betty Sanchez, Patricia Babbitt, Christal Vernon, Hazel Swick, Simon Vernon, Mark Vernon, Dennis Vernon, Deena Norman, Joe Vernon, and Lisa Hollar.

Dolores was predeceased by brothers, Franklin Vernon and Tim Vernon.
