Donald J. Deener, Sr., 84, of Brunswick, Maryland, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital. He was the husband of Gloria J. Deener, his wife of 66 years.
Born September 15, 1941, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Herman and Daisy Cooper Deener.
Donnie graduated from Brunswick High School in 1959 and joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 6 years, briefly stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Department of the Army for 30 years until his retirement.
Donnie was an active member of his community, serving in his church, New York Hill United Methodist Church; as a member of the Petersville Ruritan; and as a girls' basketball coach for many years. He was also a faithful volunteer and Life Member of the Brunswick Heritage Museum. Donnie loved golfing, collecting trains and old toys, and yard saling, but most of all he loved his family and his Lord.
Donnie was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his sons, Donald J. Deener, Jr., and Michael A. Deener (Lisa); grandchildren, Amanda (Kei) and Michael, Jr. (Mady); and great-grandson, Adrix.
Donnie was predeceased by siblings, Charles (Wilma) Deener, Herman (June) Deener, Carlos (Nancy) Deener, Mary Ayers, and Gloria J. Ayers; brother-in-law, Clayton Kirby, Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Patsy Deener and Grace Schroyer.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home in Brunswick. Burial will be held at Lovettsville Union Cemetery in Lovettsville, VA.
