Donna Jean Jones

Donna Jean Jones, 75, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025. Born in Washington, D.C., on July 11, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Betty Bovello.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George “Danny” Jones; her devoted sister, Joyce Bovello of Frederick, MD; and her beloved sons, Joseph “Jody” Jones and wife Donna of Dowelltown, TN, and James “Jamie” Jones and wife Crystal of Keymar, MD. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and great-grandmother to eight.

Donna’s passion for horses and teaching left a lasting mark on many. She was a respected riding instructor at the Rock Creek Park Horse Center, where she not only taught countless students but also met the love of her life, Danny. A skilled horsewoman, Donna enjoyed fox hunting and competing in hunter-jumper courses. She had a successful show team, and many of her students went on to show in the prestigious International Horse Show at the Capital Centre. In addition to her equestrian accomplishments, Donna was also a certified veterinary technician who cared deeply for the well-being of animals.

Donna found her greatest joy in her family and the simple moments they shared, such as days at the lake, big family dinners, and celebrating her Italian roots. Having called Frederick home for more than 60 years, she was active in her church and will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and deep love for those around her.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ritchie Chapel, 14304 Castle Drive, Cascade, MD 21719. A memorial service will follow on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with a private repass for family to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donna’s memory to The Maryland Equine Transition (MET) Foundation – Rock Creek Park Horse Center, in recognition of her lifelong love for horses and dedication to the equestrian community.
