Doris O. Alexander

Mrs. Doris O. Alexander, formerly of Walkersville, died peacefully on December 12, 2023.  She was the wife of J. Fred Alexander, her husband of 63 years.  Born February 1, 1929, near Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Steiner M. and Mabel R. (Long) Whitmore.

Prior to her relocation to Homewood of Frederick, she was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walkersville, having served as Church Secretary and on various committees of the parish.  She also volunteered for the Women's Auxiliary of the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company, and belonged to Senior Citizens of Walkersville.  She was previously employed as a Switchboard Operator with both C & P Telephone Company and Frederick Memorial Hospital, from which she retired in 1998.  She enjoyed homemaking and being with her family, as well as going on several sightseeing bus trips.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Angela, and sister Gloria E. Bachman.  Surviving are her three children, Peg, Ron (Susan), and Dennis (Sharon); grandchildren, Amy and Lee; great-grandchildren, Honore, Olivia and Cyrus; brother, Kenneth (Maryanne); and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 17, from 1 to 4 PM at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14 W. Pennsylvania Avenue, Walkersville.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time.  Rev. Phil Beck will officiate.  Interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Doris' memory to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, building fund, at the above address.
